Microsoft unveiled a new game in the "Halo" franchise at its E3 2016 media briefing on June 13 titled, "Halo Wars 2," from developers 343 Industries and Creative Assembly.
"Halo Wars 2" promised players epic campaign and intense multiplayer action. The players in the game, who take on the role of Captain Cutter, would face a formidable enemy in Atriox's faction -- The Banished.
The game according to a post on Halowaypoint explores the Halo universe and takes place after he events of "Halo 5: Guardians."
This new game features immersive multiplayer that offers players with ability to craft new strategies, features a range of units, range of missions and modes.
Some of the new modes in "Halo Wars 2" are:
Skirmish (Solo and Online Multiplayer Co-op) – Players would be able to test their battle strategies with a range of AI difficulty levels. They can also fight across all the available environment and multiplayer modes.
Strongholds (Online Multiplayer) – These are fast-paced, timed game mode with the objective to control more bases than the opponent.
Domination (Online Multiplayer) – This mode will let players build their base, army and where they have to battle to control the map and then the Ark. Players must also hold some of the nodes to win the match. This mode has no time limit. The game will end when one player has enough nodes reducing the enemy counter to zero.
Deathmatch (Online Multiplayer) -- Players will have to build their base and army and be the last person standing.
Blitz (Solo and Online Multiplayer) – This is a new multiplayer mode, whose details Microsoft would be sharing at later date. The post notes that it offers a unique approach to real-time strategy.
Microsoft also announced that it would be running beta version of "Halo Wars 2's" multiplayer mode from June 13 to 20 as Xbox One exclusive.
- June 13-16 – MODE: Domination 2v2, MAP: Ricochet
- June 17-20 – MODE: Deathmatch 2v2, MAP: Veteran
Beta ends on June 20 at 11:59 p.m. PT
Apart from this, Microsoft also announced that players who buy "Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition" would be treated to a bonus, "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition," an enhanced version of the original Halo Wars featuring improved graphics, additional Achievements and all the DLC created for the original game. This would be available on PC and Xbox One. More details on this would be shared in the future.
"Halo Wars 2" would be available on Feb. 21, 2017 for PC and Xbox One.
