Two Bollywood movies – Half Girlfriend and Hindi Medium – clashed at the box office on May 19, and the box office collections of the two over the first weekend have come out. Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's movie has beaten Irrfan Khan's Hindi Medium with a huge difference.
However, the weekend was good for both the movies as they witnessed growth in the domestic box office collections. Arjun-Shraddha's Half Girlfriend was the one who won the battle as it saw better rise on Sunday.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted the box office collections of both the movies:
Half Girlfriend: "#HalfGirlfriend has a GOOD weekend... Fri 10.27 cr, Sat 10.63 cr, Sun 11.14 cr. Total: ₹ 32.04 cr. India biz."
Hindi Medium: "#HindiMedium goes from strength to strength with each passing day... Fri 2.81 cr, Sat 4.25 cr, Sun 5.50 cr. Total: ₹ 12.56 cr. India biz."
Mohit Suri's Half Girlfriend had the lead since the beginning as its opening day collection was better than that of Hindi Medium. Half Girlfriend collected Rs. 10.27 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day, while Irrfan's movie earned Rs. 2.81 crore.
However, Hindi Medium got better reviews than Half Girlfriend. The Mohit Suri-directed film is based on Chetan Bhagat's novel of the same name. A lot of spoofs and memes have been made on the movie.
On the other hand, viewers and critics have praised Hindi Medium, which also featured Pakistani actress Saba Qamar and Deepak Dobriyal.
