Gujarat ex-minister Maya Kodnani, who was granted bail due to health issues last year after being convicted in the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre case, has drawn flak for a selfie that has gone viral.
The Naroda Patiya riots took place on 28 February, 2002, following the Sabarmati Express burning incident. Kodnani was convicted and sentenced to 28 years in prison by a special investigation team (SIT) court in August 2012.
Kodnani was granted bail by the Gujarat High Court after it examined her medical certificate, which said she was not responding to any treatment.
However, the 61-year-old's selfie at a meditation camp that has gone viral on social media has raised questions on her current health status. This has also irked social media users, who have slammed the former minister.
"Meditating together with former education minister of Gujarat - Mayaben Kodnani," an unidentified Facebook user wrote in her photo.
The lawyer of the Naroda Patiya massacre victims, Shamshad Pathan, said the SIT should move court for a detailed inquiry on her health status, reported NDTV.
