A doctor and an orderly were arrested at Gandhinagar in Gujarat after a 21-year-old dengue patient alleged that she was raped by them in the ICU on Sunday. The woman, who was admitted to Apollo hospital, said that she was drugged before being raped.
The woman was admitted on Saturday to the hospital. She said the 28-year-old doctor Ramesh Chauhan and a hospital worker attacked her on Sunday during the night shift. The doctor and the worker, Chandrakant, drugged her before assaulting her so that she could not fight back, she alleged.
The rape was confirmed following medical examination.
A case was registered against Dr. Chauhan and Chandrakant under Section 376 of IPC by the Adalaj police.
The 21-year-old complainant is a student who lives in a hostel in Gandhinagar. She was admitted to the Apollo Hospital, Bhat, in August after she was suffering from high fever.
"The girl has alleged that she was almost unconscious due to illness and medication. When she gained consciousness, she realised that she had been physically violated," police sources told the Times of India.
While she did not raise an alarm, she informed her father that she had been sexually assaulted. Her father complained to the police.
The police went through the CCTV footage and the doctor and the ward boy's statements were recorded after the complaint was registered.
