An Australian family has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most number of Christmas lights on a property, said a statement by the Guinness World Records Press Office.
David Richards, a barrister and father of three, has reportedly spent the last 4 years working on increasing the number of lights his home - in Forrest, a suburb of the country's capital, Canberra - is lit up with; the number has doubled since last year, to the record 331,038 fairy lights.
The statement, and newspaper reports, like the one in the Huffington Post, have no details on how much the decorations cost... a number that Richards is reluctant to part with. However, he did say that all the money he received from visitors was donated to a charity - SIDS and Kids - which he said helped his family when they were going through a difficult phase in 2002.
Incidentally, Richards did add this was the last year he would be conducting so extravagant a Christmas decoration. He said he was looking to donate the lights to someone else, who could continue to use them and so raise more money for charity.
