Did Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 do justice to the first part? Critics believe it has. The first part had the right mix of drama. The movie had a jovial atmosphere, making every mistake made by the characters seem fun and worth your time at the cinema halls.
plotline of Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord and his band of misfits continue their cosmic adventures as protectors of the galaxy against all-new threats including Ayesha and the Ravagers as their team grows and Peter learns about his father, Ego the Living Planet, and true heritage.
Guardians 2 reportedly does more than just fun, it provides you a fun space opera that you have not seen before (says IndieWire). Here's what the critics have to say! Take a look:
Giving it four stars, Empire shares that James Gunn has successfully crafted a sequel that keeps the focus on the characters while pumping up the volume. The website writes, "There's plenty to enjoy here, whether it's the perfectly deployed Baby Groot moments, or a general strain of anarchic weirdness that runs all the way through the credits and which still feels unique to this franchise, not just within the MCU, but blockbusters in general. It's easy to overlook the odd off note when a mix is this awesome."
The review written by USA Today says: "The creative mind of writer/director James Gunn comes alive again in this hysterical and surprisingly touching sequel. It's missing some of the ragtag underdog charm of 2014's instaclassic Guardians. Yet Vol. 2 becomes in its own way a more confident and well-rounded movie by experimenting with character relationships, familial rivalry and its own successful template."
The Guardian gives the Guardians a three star stating that the script doesn't really go anywhere. "It's fun, though GOTG2 doesn't have the same sense of weird urgency and point that the first film had. They're still guarding, although the galaxy never seems in much danger," the website shares. They also note, "There are some funny lines, very often given to Drax, who has a way of oversharing. Pom Clementieff is very entertaining in the role of Mantis, a helpmeet of Ego."
However, Variety senses that Gunn is trying too hard to make Guardians 2 a big deal. "The difference between the first Guardians and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is that the new movie is flush with what a big deal it is. Ironically, that makes it a smaller deal. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is an adventure worth taking, and the number of moviegoers around the planet who will want to take it should prove awe-inspiring. But it doesn't so much deepen the first film as offer a more strenuous dose of fun to achieve a lesser high," the review reads.
So should you watch the movie? Obviously yes, at least for Baby Groot and to understand how the movie will connect the Guardians to Thor and Avengers: Infinity War.
