"Guardians of the Galaxy," which first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (January 1969) finds space adventurer Peter Quill, the object of a bounty hunt, after stealing an orb coveted by a treacherous villain. But when Quill discovers the power it holds, the wisecracking, cheeky Galactic thief must find a way to rally a gang of fellow space vagabonds and save the universe.
However, the character that stole the show and the audiences' heart is Groot, a descendant of a race of walking flora. Despite his strange appearance, like that of a sentient tree, and limited communication skills, he is a valuable ally and a loyal friend.
