Following in the footsteps of other carmakers in India, Isuzu has dropped the prices of its vehicles in India, thanks to Goods and Services Tax (GST). The new tax regime will come into effect on July 1, 2017.
Isuzu's newly launched SUV MU-X and the V-Cross will now be cheaper by up to Rs. 1.5 lakh. The MU-X SUV, which was originally priced in the range of Rs. 23.9 lakh to Rs. 25.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), will now be retailed for a price tag ranging from Rs. 22.4 to Rs.24.4 lakh. On the other hand, the Isuzu V-Cross pickup vehicle will now be priced at Rs. 12.7 lakh.
The proposed GST has brought down the SUV and luxury vehicle prices in India. Under the GST, the SUVs and luxury cars get 28 percent tax and 15 percent of maximum cess, putting the total tax of the said category in the brackets of 43 percent, which is about 12 percent lower than the current tax system.
The US auto Major Ford also announced price discounts on its models –the EcoSport, Figo and Aspire. Ford's compact SUV EcoSport's prices dropped by up to Rs. 30,000 while the Figo hatchback and the Aspire sedan saw a price cut of up to Rs. 25,000. Auto majors like BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz have also announced price cuts on their models in India ahead of GST roll out.
