After the German luxury carmakers like BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, Ford too joined the bandwagon to pass on the benefits of Goods and Services Tax (GST) to its customers in India. The US auto major has announced discounts of up to Rs. 30,000 on its select models in India. The new federal tax regime is proposed to be in effect from July 1, 2017.
While the Ford EcoSport compact SUV yields a discount of up to Rs. 30,000, the Figo hatchback and the Aspire sedan of Ford come cheaper by up to Rs. 25,000 depending on the variants.
"We are happy to pass on (to customers) the expected benefits of GST ahead of its actual implementation," Vinay Raina, Ford India VP Sales, told PTI.
The compact SUV EcoSport is now priced in the range of Rs. 7.18 lakh to Rs.10.76 lakh. The Ford Figo and Aspire is now pegged at Rs. 4.75 lakh Rs. 5.44 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
Luxury carmakers BMW, Audi and the Mercedes-Benz were the first ones to woo the customers with huge discounts and offers ahead of the implementation of GST. Audi India, which sells cars ranging from A3 sedan to A8 premium sedan, is offering discounts up to Rs. 10 lakh besides offers like Comprehensive Service Package. Mercedes-Benz India announced a price cut on its entire made-in-India range by up to Rs. 7 lakh.
Other carmakers like Volkswagen and Mahindra are expected to follow suit in the coming days.
