Close on the trails of German carmakers Mercedes-Benz and BMW, Audi India has announced that it has cut the prices of its models in India ahead of the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The proposed new pan India tax regime will be implemented from July 1, 2017.
Audi's sales and service offers include competitive pricing and a Comprehensive Service Package. While the Comprehensive Service Package covers services such as maintenance, warranty and wear and tear, Audi's entire range of models offered in India is expected to get price discounts for a limited period. Audi India portfolio includes cars ranging from A3 sedan to A8 premium sedan, which are currently priced between Rs. 30.5 lakh and Rs. 1.15 crore. Further, Press Trust of India reports the quantum of the price cut will range from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1.5 lakh.
While BMW India had already announced that it would be passing on the benefits of GST to its customers by dropping its car prices by up to 12 percent, Mercedes-Benz India offered a price revision of its entire range of made-in-India portfolio. This includes nine models - CLA, GLA, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, GLE, GLS and Mercedes-Maybach. Customers of Mercedes Benz India range will enjoy a price cut by up to Rs. 7 lakh.
Under the new tax regime announced by the GST Council, the luxury cars and SUVs will attract 28 percent tax and 15 percent of maximum cess, putting the total tax of the said category in the bracket of 43 percent.
