The upcoming season of "Grey's Anatomy" will see Meredith trying to meet the demands of her professional and personal life alone, and it won't be an easy task considering she has three young children to take care of.
Season 11 of the ABC medical drama killed off her husband Derek, and Meredith spent close to a year away from Seattle to cope with the loss. The season ended with her returning to Seattle, and as the season moves forward fans will see her developing a deeper bond with her sisters Maggie and Amelia, as they will be helping her raise her children.
But will her best friend Cristina, the character essayed by Sandra Oh, return to give Meredith moral support?
Neither showrunner Shonda Rhimes nor Oh has mentioned such a possibility, but fans are eager to have Cristina back in Seattle.
"Cristina NEEDS to come back! After all, Meredith is her best friend (her person) and since Derek died, Mer needs her person. Right?" commented one fan. Another fan wanted Cristina to return for a three-episode arc.
"Cristina for 3 epi arc.. for some cardiac anomaly and just have a ton of scenes with her Mer & Alex," the message read.
Although it is not immediately known if Oh will return, she did speak about coming back before the show goes off air.
"We talked about that when I told her I was going to leave but we haven't talked about it again. There are certain things that Shonda and I talk about once and then we leave it because we want things to happen without pressure. I told her, "If you guys want to finish it out however you want to finish it out, I'd be more than happy to come back. And if it doesn't fit in that way, I totally understand. I just want you to know that I'm available." Who knows! I might be doing something fabulous and it might not work out but I did say, "Yes, of course I would," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
"Grey's Anatomy" is set to return on 24 September.
