Next Thursday's episode of "Grey's Anatomy" is going to be yet another emotional one for fans of the medical drama, as it's going to feature Derek's funeral and burial.
The promo for "She's Leaving Home," a two-hour special, showed Meredith breaking the news of her husband's death to their colleagues at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, as well as his devastated sister.
The promo also shows Meredith packing up her bags and about to take a trip somewhere with her children. Although it is yet to be revealed where Meredith and her kids are headed, rumours swirling around indicate she could be flying to Switzerland to be with "her person", Cristina.
Sadly, the official synopsis of next Thursday's episode does not give much details about Meredith's future plan or if Cristina will make an appearance to console her friend.
The official synopsis hints at drama between April and Jackson noting that April will make a shocking decision that Jackson fails to understand, and Bailey and Ben will argue over their future. Back at the hospital, Amelia, who lost her brother Derek, will be struggling with her past, and Callie will be revisited by her police officer patient.
Meanwhile, Patrick Dempsey sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about his character's shocking death, and he teared up at one point while talking about his onscreen wife Ellen Pompeo.
"It was magic. It's beautiful. We're like a married couple. It's 10 years, and it was magic from the beginning. Chemistry right away," he said about their time together, adding that fans will have a tough time filling the void left by Derek's death.
"I think it will be very shocking, the way it happens. It's really going to be powerful. But life is like that. I think any time an original cast member has left, there's always a void that will never be filled. Shepherd is a beloved character. People don't want to lose him. He's been in their lives for over 10 years. But it goes on, and it will evolve," the actor said.
"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursdays on ABC.
