Preston Burke left Cristina at the altar on the day of their marriage and never bothered to check up on her the seven years they've been apart. But when he finally meets her, it appears that the duo still have the chemistry that initially brought them together.
In a promo of the upcoming episode titled "We Are Never Getting Back Together" Cristina comes face to face with Burke while she is giving some sort of a lecture.
Later on, Burke tells her that he wants her. "I want you, Cristina," he says. "All you have to do is say yes."
The promo does not reveal if Burke's interest in Cristina is on a personal or professional level. But theories swirling around suggest that Burke offers Cristina a job, which she accepts.
Thursday's episode showed Cristina being apprehensive about continuing in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after not winning the Harper Avery award.
Although Cristina had the required votes to clinch the prestigious award, Catherine tells Richard that Cristina would never win the award as long as she works in a hospital that the Harper Avery Foundation owns.
Sandra Oh, who plays Cristina in the medical drama, has three more episodes to go before she exits the show.
On her decision to bring back Burke, played by Isaiah Washington, on the show, series creator Shonda Rhimes in a statement that he was necessary for Cristina to complete her journey.
"It's important to me that Cristina's journey unfolds exactly as it should," said Rhimes, according to TV Line. "Burke is vital to that journey — he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang."
"Grey's Anatomy" finale special is a two-hour episode that will air on May 15, 2014.
As per the official synopsis of the episode, Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital doctors will bid an emotional farewell to Cristina and Meredith will make a life-changing decision.
