A resident of Greater Noida allegedly killed his wife by hammering her repeatedly with a mortar and pestle before killing himself late on Sunday night, Aug 5, Hindustan Times reported. According to the report, police officials on Monday, Aug 6, said that 47-year-old Girish Bhatnagar, a resident of Galaxy Vega housing society, took the drastic step after his wife Manisha Kohli became suspicious of him having an extra marital affair.
Police officials have recovered a suicide note from the duo's house in which Bhatnagar had admitted that the couple had a troublesome marriage which led him to killing his wife of two years.
"The suicide note mentioned that Manisha suspected her husband of having an extramarital affair and that the two would often argue over the issue. It led to Bhatnagar killing his wife by smashing her head with a mortar and pestle," Hindustan Times quoted Bisrakh police station, Greater Noida house officer Akhilesh Tripathi as saying.
Tripathi added that it was Kohli's brother who informed the police about the shocking incident. The duo were taken to a nearby hospital by the police where they were declared brought dead by the doctors. SP Ashish Shrivastav told Hindustan Times that Kohli's brother was trying to call her but she did not answer his calls.
Unable to get a response from his sister even on the society intercom, Kohli's brother finally reached out to the nearest police station. Shrivastav added that a team of police officials broke into the couple's flat and recovered their bodies. "While the woman was lying on the floor, Bhatnagar was found hanging from a ceiling fan," Shrivastav told Hindustan Times.
Their bodies were sent for a postmortem examination by the police later. The police also said that while Bhatnagar was self employed, his wife Manisha was a house wife. It added that the couple had no children and that the Kohli family has not filed any formal complaint regarding the murder of their kin yet.
