The boys are back in Whitby again. The fourth instalment of The Grand Tour revolves around the challenge to create an environmentally friendly vehicle.
It's opening sequence - in which Jeremy Clarkson went on explaining the reason for staying in Yorkshire for a second dispatch. "It's the only place on earth where all three of us have had a car crash," Clarkson said. Subsequently, Hammond gave a rough estimate of the number of car crashes he caused.
Then the anchor again started bashing the tourism website TripAdvisor where someone reviewed about Whitby and wrote, "One aspect of Whitby is the large number of local chavs who drive around in the town in a circuit...."
Unlike the second episode, this week Jeremy Clarkson took a special effort to draw a comparison test between the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS and BMW M4 GTS. While Clarkson was gushing about the Porsche all over as he said "it's very very good", the BMW made him extremely disappointed because he was "struggling to find any" good point about the car.
Soon after, he was explaining about the issues of the BMW M4 GTS. "The Porsche is lot lighter, probably it does not have a tank full of water in the boot" as the car needs to be filled with water in every third time of fuelling it up.
In the Celebrity Brain Crash segment, Britain's renowned comedian Jimmy Carr 'almost' appeared as the show's unlucky star guest.
However, the one and foremost attraction of the episode was the green motorsport event, which is actually an environment-friendly car race. And, as a result, Clarkson and co. were challenged to build an environmentally friendly car, with predictably manic results.
Clarkson got a car made of cow's skin, ears, and other body parts while Hammond got a car made of plants, woods and full of greeneries. Clarkson's car drew some controversy because of using animal body parts. He just could not stop gushing about how his car is so environment-friendly — "You just need animals to make love to one another. That's what this car is, really! It's a sex machine." Afterward, he literally had to wear nose tampons as his environment-friendly car started stinking horribly.
James May's car here is really noteworthy. He made a car out of the mud at the first chance but it did not work out. Then he struggled with manure and bricks, which was going to continuously fall apart. And, May lastly appeared in a car which he explained this way, "It is a totally sustainable car made of wattle and daub. Only the daub has been replaced by cow poo..."
And, here we will take a look into what critics' have to say about the fourth episode.
About the Porsche and BMW comparison, The Telegraph's Ed power has written, "Nothing flashy – just a middle age man banging on about cornering and acceleration." On the other hand, he found "Jeremy's bone car was genuinely disgusting."
Brandon Turkus of Autoblog has opined that "with episode four, The Grand Tour's main segment balances heavy-handed jokes without smothering the fun chemistry between the hosts."
"The Grand Tour's fourth episode does the best job of erasing inconsistencies from the last three weeks. There are jokes, and some of them are indeed very heavy-handed, corny, and predictable," he added.
