Bollywood film "Grand Masti" still dominates over Shahid-Ileana's "Phata Poster Nikla Hero" ("PPNH") at the Indian box office.
The adult comedy raked in around ₹6.20 crore nett in its third weekend, whereas "PPNH" collected around ₹5 crore nett in its second weekend, according to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The total collections of "Grand Masti" are pegged at over ₹95 crore. "#GrandMasti collected 6.20 cr cr nett in its Weekend 3: Fri 1.45 cr, Sat 2.10 cr, Sun 2.65 cr. Grand total: 95.25 cr nett. Super Hit," Taran tweeted.
The film has already become the fifth highest grosser of 2013 after "Chennai Express", "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" and "Race 2".
"Grand Masti" is expected to perform decent business during the weekdays. It remains to be seen if the multi-starrer will be able to gross more than the lifetime collections of "Race 2", which are pegged at ₹100.45 crore. The film might enter the ₹100-crore club in the next few days, though chances are minimal as Ranbir Kapoor's "Besharam" is set to release on 2 October.
The release of a new film means reduction in the number of shows for those films which are already running in theatres. Both "Grand Masti" and "PPNH" will end up up with a limited screenings and hence earn lower with the release of "Besharam". Nevertheless, "Grand Masti" starring Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasini and Ritesh Deshmukh, has already been declared a super hit.
"Grand Masti" is the highest grosser of all "A" rated films including "The Dirty Picture", "Raaz 3", "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum" and "Delhi Belly".
The film is a sequel to 2004-hit film "Masti", featuring the same star cast. It took nine years for director Indra Kumar to come up with a sequel to "Masti". The success of the sequel has not just surprised the critics, but also the film's makers. Following an overwhelming response for the film, producer Ashok Thakeria and the director are planning to come out with the third installement of the franchise soon.
