‘Grand Masti’ Box Office Collection: Adult Comedy is 4th Highest Opener of 2013; Earns ₹12.5 Crore

Indra Kumar's adult comedy film, "Grand Masti" has registered itself among the top five openers of the year after grossing ₹12.5 crore on the opening day.

"Grand Masti" starring Aftab Shivdasani, Vivek Oberoi and Riteish Deshmukh in the lead roles rocked at the box office on day one, becoming the fourth highest opener of 2013 after, "Chennai Express", "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" and "Race 2".

Released in over 2000 screens, the morning and afternoon shows were packed to capacity in several circuits while some circuits witnessed an occupancy of around 60 to 70 percent despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. [Read the critics review here]. 

"Grand Masti" has the highest opening day collection for an adult certified film in 2013, trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh said.

"GrandMasti *early trends* suggest 12.5 cr start on Friday... A grand start indeed... Expecting weekend to be in 37 cr to 40 cr range," Adarsh tweeted.

The box office trends of the film on Saturday are as strong as Friday, and even better at some circuits. It is expected to take the opening weekend domestic collections to around ₹40 crore and surpass the production cost (around ₹30 crore to ₹35 crore) in just three days at the domestic box office.

"Grand Masti", a sequel to 2004 film titled "Masti", also features Bruna Abdullah, Karishma Tanna, Kainaat Arora, Manajari Phadnis, Sonalee Kulkarni, Maryam Zakaria in supporting roles.
