The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) is all set to hold the first ever "All India Women Journalists' Workshop" on June 7 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The workshop, organised in association with the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, will bring together 250 journalists from all over India on a single platform.
According to PIB, women journalists represent the three mediums – print, electronic and online. They specialise in social sector reporting and will come together at the conference to understand and discuss issues concerning women and children.
The WCD ministry will showcase the achievements of the past two years and also seek feedback on various issues like the recently released Draft National Policy for Women, Draft Anti Trafficking Bill, Draft Regulations under Juvenile Justice Act. The Ministry is also open to new ideas/areas concerning women and children that could be taken up in the coming months.
Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, will address the participants, according to the PIB press release.
Journalists from 30 states and Union territories have confirmed their participation. Several others are expected to confirm in the next couple of days. The participating journalists represent various publications and news channels – small and big - of the country.
The ministry will also organise an exhibition of two of its large initiatives -- Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao and children helpline-Childline.
