The task of paying income tax will be eased from 22 September, as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley launched an updated version of the current website of the Income Tax department.
The website will now act as a single window for all Income Tax related activities like filing returns, applying for a PAN card and CPC refund status among others.
"The new website will have enhanced features and will be more customer friendly. The taxpayers will be able to file their I-T returns online and even apply for a PAN from this portal which was till now hosted on a different official web address of the department," PTI quoted an official as saying.
"The spruced up website is more robust and can handle the pressure of numerous hits at one time," official added.
However on Monday, the Income Tax website had not been upgraded during the morning hours. "We are currently performing up gradation and maintenance activities. New up graded site will be up shortly," a post on the website read. Meanwhile, e-filing for Income Tax Returns was available.
The website is now likely to be more interactive and colourful as compared to previous version with only two shades of colour in dark blue and white. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has projected Income Tax website in its ambitious 'Vision 2020'.
