UP govt asks officials to be ready for surprise calls from Yogi Adityanath

The Uttar Pradesh state government on Friday has announced that all administrative officers, including district magistrates and superintendents of police will soon be receiving surprise calls from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on their landline phone to know their location.

The CM will be calling them "any time" at their offices between 9 am and 6 pm, Government spokesperson and energy minister Srikant Sharma has said. He also said officers who operate from camp offices must start sitting in offices, meeting people and addressing their problems so that they don't have to knock the door of the CM and his ministers for justice and social benefits.

Moreover, the UP CM took this decision in order to ensure that his government and bureaucrats are working round-the-clock in order to improve the law and order situation of the state.

"I am a workaholic and the bureaucrats will have to deliver too. Those who are ready to work hard should continue and non-performers should leave," Adityanath told Hindustan Times.

According to the NDTV, unless the officials are able to justify their inability to take his call because they were at work elsewhere ("in the field"), they would be penalised.

Adityanath has also ordered his ministers to prepare a report card of 100 days of the government in UP. The state government will complete 100 days around mid-June.

"While the government will issue a white paper on its successes and failures, individual ministers will present their report card on the work of their departments through presentations to the chief minister (CM) after 100 days in office," the spokesperson said.

Talking about corrupt officers, the energy minister also added that officers who are found to be corrupt would be sent to jail and will not be allowed to walk away with warnings.
