The Government of Rajasthan conferred the prestigious Rajasthan Ratna Awards in a function graced by the top brass of the Government. Legendary Ghazal Singer Shri Jagjit Singh was among those 7 who received the prestigious award. Rajasthan Ratna award is the highest civilian award given by the state government for distinguished work and contribution in the field of Art and Literature.
Rajasthan government felicitated the awardees with the Rajasthan Ratna Award in an event held at the auditorium of Jawahar Kala Kendra. The event was attended by honorable governor Ms. Margret Alwa, Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot and Minister of Art & Culture Ms. Bina Kak along with many other dignitaries.
The awardees were given ₹1 Lakh cash, a shawl and a Citation by Honorable Governor Ms.Margaret Alwa.
Mr. Armaan Chowdhury, grandson of Shri Jagjit Singh received the award on behalf of the late singer. Armaan gave a heartfelt speech on the occasion. "I am honoured and proud to be here today and grateful to the government for taking this initiative. I wish that he could have been here to share this moment with us. I would also like to specially thank Ashok Gehlotji and everyone involved for their support."
The legendary ghazal singer, also known as the 'Ghazal Samrat', is well known for his incredible contributions to the field of music. Shri Jagjit Singh already has many accolades and awards to his credit including the Padhma Bhushan and Sahitya Academy Award, apart from several prestigious film and television awards.
Other Luminaries who received the awards with late Shri Jagjit Singh are famous Maand Singer Allah Jilai Bai, Poet Kanahiyalal Sethia, Authors Komal Kothari, Laxmi Kumari Chundawat and Vijay Dan Detha for their remarkable contributions in their respective fields.
