The Ministry of Forest and Environment in India has banned the sale and display of ornamental fishes to protect animals from cruelty.
Here's why #AlavalathiShaji is trending on social media
The new order forbids ornamental fishes to be kept in glass aquariums, and the shops that keep such fishes should have a vetenary doctor available full time. The new notification is expected to hit the fish industry in Kerala.
However, soon after the ban was announced, social media has been flooded with memes dealing with the fate of ornamental fishes if they are forced to live in ponds or river.
