Gotham is wrapping up next year with season 5 and it appears the makers have been saving the best for last. David Mazouz, who plays rich-famous-vigilante Bruce Wayne, teased at the idea that his character would finally come to realise what he has to offer and how he can help people of Gotham.

Talking to TV Insider, the 17-year-old said that the idea of the show was to set up the story for something big that'll go down in the pages of history as epic.

"And throughout the show we've been having little teases of these iconic things but now, in Season Five, we really get to show them and show their full force and show show them in their entirety and not have to tease them anymore but actually say the words 'Batman,'" he was quoted as saying.

The first few episodes will focus on Wayne struggling to help Selina Kyle/ Catwoman (Camren Bicondova) and later realising how much he has to offer to the city and its people. Roaming the streets at night in black clothes and a balaclava is not enough to keep Gotham from the clutches of evil.

"He's going to look at people like Penguin, and look at people who are the roots of corruption and the roots of abuses of power and realize that only somebody like Batman can take them down. He's going to become what he needs to become," Mazouz told Comicbook.com.

Gotham's slipping ratings has caused the channel to cancel it. It will return to TV screens sometime in 2019. Unfortunately, there will be only 13 episodes instead of the usual 22.

Meanwhile, there's been quite the uproar regarding the cancellation of the show. Fans have taken to Twitter and other social media platforms to run a campaign led by hashtags #SaveGotham and #longlivegotham.

Some believe that Gotham might meet the same fate as Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The latter was picked up by NBC a day after fans went to town with their campaign to save the show. The police sitcom will now return with season 6 sometime in 2019. Actors are all set to shoot in a week's time.
