"Gopala Gopala," starring Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh, has taken fantastic openings on the first day at the AP/Nizam box office.
The film is estimated to have earned around ₹9.19 crore share on the opening day, according to Andhraboxoffice. "Gopala Gopala" has reportedly created an all-time record in the East where it has raked in ₹1.21 crore share on the opening day.
It has surpassed the opening day collections of Jr NTR's "Rabhasa," which earned ₹8.85 crore.
However, the multi-starrer has failed to beat Pawan's "Attarintiki Daaredi," Mahesh Babu's "Aagadu" and Jr NTR's "Baadshah" first day collections, which are ₹10.75 crore, ₹9.74 crore and ₹9.25 crore, respectively. The record set by the 2013-blockbuster flick "Attarintiki Daaredi" still remains unbroken.
"Gopala Gopala" opened to positive feedback from critics as well as from the audience. Pawan-Venky's star power and advance booking helped the film take good openings on the first day. Despite not being a commercial drama, "Gopala Gopala" has managed to pull in crowds to the theatres.
Critics say that the performance of Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh are the major highlights of the film. With the film getting an overall positive feedback, it is likely to attract more family audiences to the theatres.
The Sankranti holidays are also expected to boost the film's collections and it is likely to end the opening week on a high note.
"Gopala Gopala" has also fared well in the United States, which is one of the key markets for Telugu films. The film has reportedly grossed over $280K through Friday premiere shows. It is expected to continue its good run at the US box office considering that Pawan has a strong fan base in the country.
Some of his past releases such as "Gabbar Singh" and "Attarintiki Daaredi" have fared exceptionally well and grossed $1 million in the US. It will be interesting to see if "Gopala Gopala" joins the elite $1 million club.
The satirical drama, directed by Kishore Pardasany, has Pawan playing the role of God and Venkatesh appearing as a shopowner who is an atheist. Shreya Saran and Mithun Chakraborty appear in supporting roles, while the film's music is composed by Anup Rubens.
The film is produced by Suresh Babu and Sharrath Marar under Suresh Productions and North Star Entertainments banner.
