Search engine giant Google on Thursday said it will release two flagship Google OS powered laptops - HP Chromebook 14 and Acer C720 Chromebook, in India next week.
HP Chromebook was unveiled a month ago at the Intel develop forum in San Francisco. It sports a 14.0-inch HD (1366x768p) BrightView LED Backlit display and runs the Google's browser based Chrome OS powered by a 1.4GHz Intel based dual-core Celeron processor with 4GB DDR3 RAM and 16GB SSD memory. It also boasts of an HP TrueVision HD Webcam.
On the other hand, Acer C720 Chromebook sports a smaller 11.6-inch LED HD (1366x768p) Backlit TFT LCD screen and packs a 1.4GHz Intel Celeron dual-core processor, 2GBDDR3 RAM, 16GB SSD and Acer Crystal Eye HD Webcam.
Though both laptops boast of sleek looks and high-end specifications, Chromebooks are less popular as they lack Optical drives and large memory space unlike normal laptops. Moreover, Chromebook users must be always connected to the internet to make maximum use of the applications which come pre-loaded in the devices.
To compensate for these short comings, Google is offering Chromebook users access to 100GB (free for two years) storage space at Google Drive. It has also joined hands with popular network carriers - Airtel(3G dongle & 4G Dongle ) and Tikona (internet bundle schemes) to offer buyers a range of broadband and cellular offers.
Google has confirmed that both Chromebooks would be made available in select Reliance Digital and Croma Stores, in Delhi and Mumbai from 17 October onwards. Prospective buyers can even the book the new devices at online store Flipkart. [To pre-book HP Chromebook 14, click here; or if interested in Acer C720 Chromebook, click here]
