Amidst the speculations of the Nexus series devices being ditched by the search engine giant, Google, new reports have surfaced online that the company's flagship smartphone and tablet projects are still alive and might finally see the light of the day in a couple of month's time.
For the past few months, we have been hearing numerous contradicting reports, with some suggesting that the Google's flagship Nexus handset series is being dumped to focus on the Project Silver (slated for early 2015 release), while some hinting that HTC has bagged the contract to produce the coveted Nexus smartphone along with Nexus tablet aka 'Project Volantis'. It was said that HTC's Nexus phone would boast a monster 5.9-inch display, but a recent Android Police report has revealed that a Nexus phone will be made by the Google's very own device-division- Motorola Mobility (soon to be acquired by Lenovo).
The company has already begun project 'Shamu', (named after the famous orca of San Diego Sea World amusement park), which is quite believable since the search engine giant is known for naming sea creatures for its flagship devices.
[Note: Shamu is the codename of Nexus 6, internally known inside Motorola's R&D facility, while Google Nexus 5 is internally know as Hammerhead (a Shark species), Nexus 10 (Mantaray, a giant fish species) and the list continues]
Earlier this week, American chipset maker, Nvidia in its legal document in the case pertaining to patent battle with Samsung and Qualcomm, had to release some confidential details.
Inside one of those documents (courtesy, BSN), Nvidia has revealed that the company's new generation Tegra K1 (64-bit Nvidia Logan processor) has been used in the upcoming HTC Nexus 9 due to get released in the Q3 this year, thus confirming the existence of the HTC-Google Nexus 9. [Full report, HERE]
More details (courtesy, PhoneArena) of Nexus 6 aka Nexus X (codenamed Motorola Shamu) too surfaced online. A couple of Motorola Shamu (numbered XT1112) prototype models landed in India (Bangalore) from the USA for a demo.
Now, the confusion over the makers of Google Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 (aka Nexus X) are almost resolved.
Let us now get back to the main focus of the article- Google Nexus 6.
To get a better perspective on the rumoured Nexus 6, we have leafed through the numerous reports and stitched together a comprehensive report on the key features, which are likely to be seen in Google's upcoming marquee smartphone.
Google Nexus 6 aka X Display Details:
In 2013, Nexus 5 sported a 4.95-inch display boasting full HD (1920x1080p) resolutions and now its successor is said to go a notch up.
Now, if the recently leaked AnTuTu benchmark results (courtesy, G4Games) are to be believed, Nexus 6 is said to flaunt little bigger 5.2-inch screen, boasting a QHD aka 2K display resolution (2560x1440p) with a staggering pixel density of 500 plus ppi (Pixels Per Inch).
Google Nexus 6 aka X Processor, RAM and Storage Details:
Rumours are rife that Nexus 6 will house the Qualcomm's new beast- Snapdragon 805 (APQ8084), a quad-core processor, which can clock a staggering CPU speed, close to 2.7GHz. It comes paired with Adreno 420 graphics engine and sumptuous 3GB RAM.
If this speculation does come true, then Nexus 6 will certainly be able to give stiff challenge to HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z3, Galaxy Note 4 (as well as Galaxy S5 and Alpha).
Nexus 6 is expected to be made available in two storage variants, most probably - 32GB and 64GB models. Though there is no word on whether the phone would house a micro-SD card slot or not, there is a possibility that Motorola might incorporate it, just like it introduced the option for memory expansion in the recently released Moto G (Gen 2.).
Google Nexus 6 aka X Camera Details:
Nexus 5, despite endowing with feature-rich specifications, got panned by critics and fans for its below-par camera features.
Well, this year, Motorola has reportedly upped the ante by bumping the camera specifications of the Nexus 6. If the leaked benchmarking performance results are to be believed, then it will house a 13.0-megapixel main camera and a 2.1-megapixel snapper on the front.
There are no other details beyond these physical specifications. Loyal Nexus fans are hoping that Google-Motorola incorporates an enlarged lens so that its camera will be able to capture good quality pictures in low- light conditions as well and also hope the company throw-in some more value-added features to enrich photography experience, which was sorely missed in its predecessor.
Google Nexus 6 aka X Mobile Operating System Details:
Previous generation smartphones, Google Nexus 4 and 5 came packed with the latest OS versions- v4.2 Jelly Bean and 4.4 KitKat respectively. This year too, Google is said to announce Nexus 6 running on the new Android OS with 'L' based dessert nomenclature out-of-the-box.
The most prominent ones that are trending in the Internet are - Lollipop, Lemon Tart, Liquorice and Laddu, an Indian sweet.
Google Nexus 6 aka X Launch Date Details:
Technology blog, Inferse citing sources has claimed that Google Nexus 6 is expected to get unveiled on Halloween (31 October), a popular western festival.
Even its predecessors - Nexus 5 (in 2013) and Nexus 4 (in 2012) too got launched around a similar time-line (31 October and 29 October respectively).
Google Nexus 6 aka X Release Date Details:
Going by Google's device release strategies over the past few years, one can expect Nexus 6 to go on sale on the launch day itself.
The upcoming Motorola phone is most likely to hit shelves initially at the Google Play store and then later in other online stores.
Google Nexus 6 aka X Price Details:
Just a few days ago, popular French e-commerce site, Fnac accidently (or intentionally?) listed the 32GB and 64GB version of the yet-to-be launched Motorola X T1100 aka Nexus X, revealing the price of the device.
Once the report went wild on the Internet, the webpage was taken down immediately, but by then some technology blogs had taken a screenshot of the website.
According to the listing (courtesy, TK Tech News), Nexus X 64GB and 32GB smartphone variants are expected to cost - €499.99 (around $700/₹40,000) and €419.99 (around $554/₹33,526) respectively.
