Samsung recently launched a new hanset Galaxy Grand 2,  the next version of Galaxy Grand, and considered as one of the main competitors for the much-popular LG-manufactured Google Nexus 5.

Here is a head to head comparison of the two handsets which will help users decide which device to buy during this holiday season.

Display

Google Nexus 5 excels in the overall display quality as compared to Samsung Galaxy Grand 2. Nexus 5 includes a 5in Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS resolution display enhanced with a high 445ppi, coated with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 settles for slightly larger screen size of 5.25in along with a 720p (1280 x 720) resolution TFT display with a low 280ppi.

Memory

Google Nexus 5 comes with a 16/32GB in-built storage variant and has an edge over Samsung Galaxy Grand 2's in-built 8GB storage. However, the Galaxy Grand 2 includes one of the key features absent in the Nexus 5 - MicroSD card slot.

While the Nexus 5 users only have a 16/32GB storage option, Galaxy Grand 2 users can expand their 8GB in-built storage up to 64GB for more space, to download apps and store multimedia contents.

Google Nexus 5 performs slightly better than Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 when it comes to multi-tasking, as the former sports a 2GB RAM as compared to the latter's 1.5GB.

Camera

Both handsets feature an 8 megapixel rear camera but Nexus 5 is preferred as it includes the Optical Image Stabilisation feature, which Galaxy Grand does not have. However, Galaxy Grand 2 somehow makes up for the loss by featuring a 1.9 megapixel front camera, as compared to Nexus 5's 1.3 megapixel shooter.

OS and Processors

Google Nexus 5 proves to be way ahead of Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 in both the operating systems they run on and the processors they are supported with.

Galaxy Grand 2 handset runs on the Android 4.3 Jelly bean OS and is supported by 1.2GHz quad-core A7 processor. On the other hand, Google Nexus 5 features the latest Android 4.4 kitkat OS (and has also the Android 4.4.2 OS update), along with a 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which is the latest in the market.

Connectivity

One of the major features lacked by Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is the 4G LTE connectivity which is present with Google Nexus 5. Rest of the features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and others are nearly the same.

Battery

Galaxy Grand 2 includes a 2600mAh battery which is slightly better than the Google Nexus 5's 2300mAh.

Price

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is set to arrive at a price range of Rs. 22,900-Rs. 24,900 ($372 - $404 approx.) , according to NDTV Gadgets, while the Google Nexus 16GB and 32GB version is available for Rs. 28,999 and Rs. 32,999 ($468 - $533 approx.) from the Google Play Store.
