Hype around the Google Nexus 5 (2015) is slowly beginning to gain momentum with its release date drawing closer. If reports are anything to go by, the search giant's upcoming device is not exactly the Nexus 6 successor but sort of upgraded version of the Nexus 5.
Google is tight-lipped on the release date of its upcoming device but several reports have claimed that the device could see the light of day either in October or November. It could well turn true as the search giant has the tradition of releasing its devices in the last quarter of the year just before holiday season begins.
Interestingly, Google is expected to rectify two major hitches seen in the Nexus 6 in its upcoming device. The Nexus 5 was considered as one of the best smartphones at the time of its launch and was a huge hit in terms of sales but its successor has failed to live up to the expectations, according to reports.
The Nexus 6 is no doubt a great device with up-to-date technology but people's craze for it has been not like that of the Nexus 5 and its predecessors. What was the problem? Well, many were of the opinion that its 6-inch screen is too big. Review of the device by Daily Star stated that many people, who were not comfortable with big screen phones, were not happy with sudden increase of screen size from 5-inch to 6-inch.
So, it won't come as a surprise if the Google Nexus 5 (2015) comes with display smaller than that of the Nexus 6. Several reports have suggested that the device would sport either a 5.3-inch screen or 5.7-inch at the most.
Another shocking thing that the Nexus 6 brought to Nexus fans was its price. The Nexus 5 was priced just $350 for the 16GB variant and $400 for the 32GB model but its successor came with a price tag of $699.99 ($249.99 with two year contract) which is a huge hike. So, there are possibilities of Google reducing the display size and price of its upcoming device though not guaranteed.
Meanwhile, MobiPicker reported citing Chinese IT analyst firm Jiutang Pan's post on the Weibo website that the Google Nexus 5 (2015) might sport a 5.7-inch OLED screen with 1440 x 2560 pixels, and powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor. It is also reports that the device might come running on Google's upcoming software dubbed as the Android M aka Android 6.0 M Muffin which is likely to be announced at Google I/O 2015 event.
