Google has the tradition of announcing new software at its annual conference Google I/O before introducing it on its flagship device, so the launch of Google Nexus 5 (2015) is imminent as the web giant has announced its new firmware Android M.
According to reports that have surfaced so far, release date of the upcoming Google Nexus 5 (2015) is expected to fall in October-December this year. Google announced Android L, which later came to be known as Android 5.0 Lollipop, at its Google I/O 2014 event before the release of the Motorola Nexus 6 in November. So, the announcement of Android M at the Google I/O 2015 could be taken as a hint that the launch of Nexus 5 (2015) is not far off.
Google announced its upcoming software called Android M at its Google I/O event on Thursday, 28 May. The letter "M" is expected to be named after a sweet like in the past, and reports have linked it to Muffin, Marshmallow, Milkshake, Macaroon, M&M's, Molasses and Mocha Java Cake. The new software has features like app permissions, native fingerprint support, Android Pay integration, Chrome Custom Tabs and Power management or Doze mode.
The search-engine giant is tight-lipped on its upcoming device, but several reports have claimed that it will be a variant of the 2013 LG Nexus 5 and to be named the Nexus 5 (2015). Interestingly, Android Police has reported that Google is planning to release two devices – one with codename "LG Bullhead" to be made by LG and believed to be the Nexus 5 (2015), and another device codenamed "Huawei Angler" to be made by Chinese company Huawei and believed to be Motorola Nexus 6 successor.
The Google Nexus 5 (2015) is expected to sport a 5.2-inch display, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and house a 2,700mAh battery. The Nexus 6, which has a 6-inch display, received lukewarm response from gadget lovers for his huge screen size, Google seems to have learned a lesson.
MobiPicker has reported citing Chinese IT analyst firm Jiutang Pan's post on the Weibo website that Google's upcoming device might sport a 5.7-inch OLED screen with 1,440x2,560 pixels, and Snapdragon 810 processor. This device could be referred to as Nexus 6 successor or Huawei Angler considering its screen size.
