It now seems that speculations surrounding the next-gen Google Nexus 2016 smartphones have come to an end. This is because a latest report has revealed that the new handsets will not be the Sailfish and Marlin, but will be called Pixel and Pixel XL, respectively without the Nexus moniker.
An Android Police report, quoting exclusive internal sources, states that Nexus loyalists can look forward to witnessing the unveiling of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones in an event on Oct. 4.
Android Police also states that the Pixel and Pixel XL would be branded exclusively by Google, but the hardware could be manufactured by HTC going by what multiple reliable reports had stated earlier.
Now, as per latest information available, the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL refer to the 5-inch HTC Sailfish and the larger 5.5-inch HTC Marlin, respectively. However, an aspect worth remembering at this point of time is that these handsets would not be Nexus-branded devices.
Also, as per unofficial sources, both the Pixel and Pixel XL would be designed to incorporate quad-core Qualcomm SoCs apart from 12 MP primary cameras, 4GB RAM and the Android 7.0 Nougat operating platform.
Other information regarding the key technical specifications of the next-gen Google Pixel and Pixel XL are merely rumours at this point in time and there is nothing new to report as far as these are concerned. Even the pricing details of the Pixel and Pixel XL are yet to surface (even unofficially) at this point in time.
Nonetheless, as far as the Oct. 4 event (expected to take place in San Francisco in the U.S.) is concerned, Google is rumoured to launch a new 4K Chromecast and the Daydream View (a Daydream VR hardware).
