Google Chrome for Android updated: Chrome 58 gets redesigned History page, better downloads management
After rigorous testing of Chrome 58 in the beta channel, Google has finally released a new stable version of the popular browser for Android users on Tuesday. Announcing the release of Chrome 58 (58.0.3029.83), the search giant said that the latest version will be available on the Google Play store by next week.
Google has not made any drastic changes in Chrome 58. Instead, the new version of the browser comes with a handful of performance and stability fixes, along with a set of handy new features.
One of the new tricks added to the latest version of Chrome for Android now allows users to view and manage in-progress downloads. After users get the Chrome 58 installed in their Android devices, they will be able to use this new feature on the Downloads page.
The second important feature added to Chrome 58 is a revamped History page, which allows users to view and clear their browsing data more easily.
In addition to these new tricks, Google has also added a new gesture to the Chrome browser app. Users will now be open a new tab from Chrome Custom Tabs by long-pressing a link.
The update also has made many other minor changes to the Chrome browser for Android. Interested users can get the details in the Git log.
The latest improvements came less than a week after Google made new additions to the Android version of Chrome. The update allowed for both the bottom Android navigation bar and the top status bar to hide whenever the browser runs Progressive Web Apps, letting users to go full screen.
Progressive Web Apps is a Google initiative to blur the line between the web and mobile applications. It's a new software development methodology to create a hybrid of regular web pages and native apps.
