South African billionaire Elon Musk has suggested that humans on the earth might be living in a simulation. The SpaceX founder made these startling remarks during his appearance on comedian Joe Rogan's popular podcast, 'The Joe Rogan Experience'.
As per Elon Musk humans living on the earth could be trapped in a matrix-like pseudo-existence, and added that it could be named either 'reality' or 'multiverse'.
"If you assume any rate of improvement at all, then games will be indistinguishable from reality, or civilization will end. One of those two things will occur," Musk said. "Therefore, we are most likely in a simulation, because we exist. I think most likely, this is just about probability. There are many, many simulations. You might as well call them the reality, or you could call them multiverse," said Musk.
During the talk, Musk also talked about the idea of developing a supersonic plane that takes off and lands vertically. However, he made it clear that the development of this plane is not a priority at this moment as there are many other problems which should be addressed by the humans quickly.
The video of the show has already gone viral on YouTube, and within 24 hours, it has racked up more than 300,0000 views.
It should be noted that Elon Musk is not the only prominent person who has talked about the multiverse and similar concepts. Many cosmologists and philosophers have previously talked about similar ideas, and they assumed that the entire universe might be a simulation created by advanced extraterrestrial beings.
People who believe in this theory argue that the chances of digging out the truth by the inhabitants in this digital realm are pretty less, as the maximum evidence they could gather might be controlled by the creators.
Some experts have connected this simulation idea with the much popular Fermi Paradox. As per Fermi Paradox, if the universe is so big and mighty, then it remains a puzzle why no extraterrestrial beings have contacted us yet.
