The Golden State Warriors might not have started brightly compared to the last season, as they have already suffered two losses. But, they are still one of the favourites to win the NBA title, with the number of high-profile players on their roster. The Warriors, who defeated New Orleans Pelicans in their last match after their loss to Los Angeles Lakers, will face Dallas Mavericks at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
The home fans witnessed the brilliance of Stephen Curry from beyond the arc, hitting an incredible 13 three-pointers against the Pelicans to become the first person to do so in NBA history. The Warriors' star broke Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall's record of 12 three-pointers, and the fans will hope for some amazing performance from Curry this time around as well.
It is not going to be easy for the Mavericks to deal with red-hot Curry, who was not too impressive in the early part of the season. Curry is not the only star that the Mavericks might have to deal with, but also Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, which makes the visitors' task even more daunting.
Durant, after joining Warriors from Oklahoma City Thunder, has been brilliant, helping them team on the offensive front. He played an important role in helping his team defeat the Thunder as well. The Warriors, who lost to San Antonio Spurs at the opening night, have been strong if one ignores their loss to Lakers a few days earlier.
The Warriors will start this game as huge favourites, and if the trio – Curry, Durant and Thompson – shines on Wednesday, Mavericks will find it difficult to win their third straight game.
The Mavericks started this season, losing first five matches, but they looked splendid in their last two games, defeating Bucks and Lakers, which must give them the confidence to stun the Warriors. It is an uphill task, for which they need their big names to stay on top.
They will need the experience of the old-war horse Dirk Nowitzki, who should be strong on both the offensive and defensive floor for the Mavs. Besides Nowitzki, Harrison Barnes and Deron Williams will be key to Mavericks.
