Independence Day 2018 witnessed one of the biggest festival clash at the box office wherein Akshay Kumar's Gold and John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate went one on one with each other. Both movies opened to mixed reviews from the critics, however, they managed to strike the right chord with the audience. The Reema Kagti and Milap Zaveri directorial have now collected Rs 85.30 crores and Rs 75.09 crores respectively in just 9 days of its release.
Gold and Satyameva Jayate took off a lightning start on the opening day (Wednesday, August 15) at the box office and collected a whopping Rs 25.25 crore and Rs 20.52 crore respectively. However, the collections of both the movies saw up to 60 per cent dip on Thursday because of the working day.
The collections of Gold and Satyameva Jayate saw an upward trend on Friday and gradually witnessed more footfalls on Saturday and Sunday thanks to the positive word of mouth. While Akshay Kumar starrer collected Rs 8.10 crores on Thursday, Rs 10.10 crores on Friday, Rs 12.30 crores on Saturday and Rs 15.55 crores on Sunday, John Abraham starrer was just a few miles behind it by minting Rs 7.92 crores on Thursday, Rs 9.18 crores on Friday, Rs 9.03 crores on Saturday and Rs 10.26 crores on Sunday.
During the weekdays too, the movies passed the litmus test and remained steady at the domestic market. Not just in India but both the movies managed to rake in the moolah from the International market as well.
Akshay Kumar starrer Gold was released across 4,000 plus screens while John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate hit almost 3500 plus screens worldwide.
