Bollywood is synonymous to chest-thumping, flag-waving patriotism portrayed in the movies. Over the past many decades, makers have been cashing in and planning their films releases during the Independence Day week to rake in moolah at the box office. And it has always proven to be a beneficial deal for the producers who laughed all the way to the banks earning hefty money.
As today, on August 15, 2018, India is celebrating its 71 years of independence, moviegoers have been treated with two big ticket movies likes Akshay Kumar starrer Gold and Satyameva Jayate starring John Abraham.
According to early estimates, Gold is likely to earn Rs 22 crores on the opening day while Satyameva Jayate is expected to mint Rs 15 crores on its first day of release.
While it will be interesting to see how the box office clash would help the two Bollywood biggies, here's a look at the movies which released on this day over the past decade and how they fared at the box office.
