Both Gold and Satyameva Jayate made an excellent start at the box office with their collections standing at Rs 45.25 crore. The two films witnessed a dip in the business on Thursday, Aug 16 but still managed to earn good money.
Released on Independence Day, Gold and Satyameva Jayate made huge collections on the opening day. While the Akshay Kumar starrer raked in Rs 25.25 crore at the domestic market, John Abraham's film collected Rs 20.52 crore at the Indian box office.
It has turned out to be the highest opening day grossing movies for both Akshay and John. Now Thursday being a non-holiday, a significant downfall in the films' business was obvious to happen.
After an impressive start on Wednesday, Satyameva Jayate and Gold witnessed a fall of over 50 per cent in its collection on second day. John's film collected Rs 7.92 crore on day 2, and Akshay's sports drama earned Rs 8 crore.
"#SatyamevaJayate saw a big dip on Day 2... Expected to show an upward trend today [Day 3]... Single screens/mass belt remains strong... Wed 20.52 cr, Thu 7.92 cr. Total: ₹ 28.44 cr. India biz. [sic]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"#Gold witnessed a decline on Thu... Biz should gain momentum from today onwards... Plexes hold the key... Wed 25.25 cr, Thu 8 cr. Total: ₹ 33.25 cr. India biz. [sic]" he said in another tweet.
On the other side, Gold is expected to have made a business of around Rs 12 crore on its day 2. Nonetheless, the numbers are likely to have an upward trend over the weekend.
While Satyameva Jayate is having a strong hold at the single screen theatres, Gold is making most of the money from multiplexes. Both the movies have different set of audience, and this has been working well for them.
Satyameva Jayate is an action drama, and Akshay's film is a sports drama, based on real life incidents.
