Akshay Kumar's Gold and John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate clashed with each other at the box office on this Independence Day. Although Gold stood higher than the action drama, Satyameva Jayate also made impressive collection on first day.
As expected, Gold came up as the clear winner as far as day 1 box office collection is concerned. The film reportedly witnessed an impressive occupancy of around 60-65 per cent on the first day. The sports drama had seen brilliant advance booking, and the positive reviews further helped its business on first day.
On the other side, Satyameva Jayate's huge first day collecion, despite the clash, has come as a surprise. It reportedly enjoyed an occupancy of around 40-45 per cent on the maiden day, which is above expectations.

While Gold mostly attracted the multiplex-going audience, Satyameva Jayate made a strong hold in the single screen theatres. However, there is a big difference in the screen count as Gold released on 3,400 screens, and the other film released on 2.500 screens in India.
Gold collected Rs 25.25 crore at the domestic market. Satyameva Jayate also performed excellent, and made a collection of Rs 20.52 crore.
"#SatyamevaJayate springs a BIG SURPRISE... Plexes are good, but single screens are ROCKING... Wed ₹ 20.52 cr. India biz. [sic]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"#Gold has an EXTRAORDINARY Day 1... Takes a FAB START at plexes across major centres... Wed ₹ 25.25 cr. India biz. [SIC]," he said in another tweet.
Gold and Satyameva Jayate have collected Rs 45.25 crore net at the Indian box office on the first day. Taran Adarsh tweeted, "The BIG HOLIDAY [#IndependenceDay] results in BIG NUMBERS at the BO... Both, #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate have TERRIFIC Day 1... Both, Akshay and John record their HIGHEST *Day 1* biz... The *combined* total is approx ₹ 45 cr [+/-], which is HUMONGOUS... Yesss, BO is on "
With such impressive numbers coming in despite the clash, it is now being believed that both the movies will thrive at the box office for being of completely different genres, and catering to different set of audience.
While the hype around Akshay's Gold has always been high, Satyameva Jayate's day one performance at the box office came up as a surprise. Although Gold may win the box office battle in the coming days, John's film apparently will give it a tough fight.
