Gionee recently rose to popularity in India and China, thanks to its extensive range of price-worthy smartphones. The company wants to keep up with the changing trends in the smartphone market, and after Oppo and Coolpad struck a battle with their selfie-focused smartphones, Gionee is planning to make the fight more interesting. The Chinese tech giant has sent out invites to the media for an event, where it plans to launch its latest selfie-centric smartphone.
As per the invite, the event will be held on Aug. 22 and the hashtag at the bottom of the invite "#SelfieWithFlash" says it all. There are quite a few smartphones that were released in China, but not in other markets in recent weeks, but the upcoming event is said to be for an entirely new smartphone.
According to a Phone Radar report, the company will be launching a new smartphone called Gionee S6s, which will be identical to the premium Gionee S6 Pro. In terms of specifications and design, the S6s and S6 Pro will be identical on several accounts. It is said to feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a 2.5D curved glass, a 13MP primary camera with PDAF and f/2.0 aperture, and an 8MP front snapper with f/2.2 aperture and 5P lens. Both cameras will be accompanied by a LED flash.
The S6s is said to feature a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage. Much like the S6 Pro, Gionee S6s will also have a fingerprint scanner placed at the back of the device and a 3,150mAh battery. The device will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow based Amigo 3.2 UI.
In terms of connectivity, the S6s will have dual SIM hybrid slot, 4G LTE and VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port. The handset will be available in gold, rose gold and silver colours.
Even if the specs are true, the pricing of the S6s is still a mystery. But fans do not have to wait long to find out as the upcoming event on Aug. 22 will unveil all the details, including the price and availability of the S6s in India. Stay tuned for updates.
