Chinese smartphone brands' obsession for camera phones has reached new levels with the launch of a smartphone with as many as four cameras – two on the front and two at the back. The phone, called Gionee S10, also comes with an impressive set of specs (at least on paper), but what makes the handset stand out is obviously the set of cameras it has.
Gionee, which is not very popular like its other Chinese smartphone companies including Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, claims that the S10 sports a dual camera setup at the back with 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel sensors. On the other hand, the front cameras come with 20-megapixel sensor and 8-megapixel sensors.
The company also claimed that one of the back cameras on the new handset feature an F/1.8 aperture to capture better photos in low-light conditions. Other camera features in the phone include wider angles, the ability to catch 3D effects and distance measurement.
According to the company, the Gionee S10 features a 5.5-inch full HD display, and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P25 processor. It also comes with 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, a 3,450 mAh battery and Android 7.0 Nougat.
Thinking of giving it a try? Here's the anticlimax – you won't be able get one so easily if you don't live in China. For now, the Gionee S10 is China specific, and there's no word if and when it will come to other markets. In its home country, the phone is priced at 2,599 Yuan, which is about $380 or Rs. 24,468.
In addition to the Gionee S10, the company also launched two more variants of the phone -- Gionee S10B and Gionee S10C. Although these are also camera-focused, they don't feature four cameras like their premium counterpart.
The Gionee S10B features the same display, OS and internal storage as the S10, but it is powered by a relatively less powerful MediaTek Helio P10 process, coupled with 4GB of RAM. Other specs include a dual rear camera with 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors, a 16-megapixel front camera and a 3,700mAh battery. The Gionee S10B is priced at 2,199 Yuan (roughly Rs. 20,700).
The Gionee S10C, the smallest and cheapest among the three, comes with a 5.2-inch HD display, a Snapdragon 427 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. It features a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 13-megapixel front camera and a 3,100mAh battery. The Gionee S10C costs 1,599 Yuan (roughly Rs. 15,000).
