After rumours of Gionee's Elife E8 smartphone, a new handset from the Chinese tech giant has popped up in the wild. Passing China's TENNA certification recently is Gionee M5, which comes with mid-range specs and incredibly great battery life. The existence of Gionee M5 was confirmed by the company when it teased an image on Wiebo hinting at two batteries. The same has been confirmed by TENNA's listing.
Gionee M5 is expected to come with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 1,280x720 pixel resolution. The handset will be powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage. The memory can be expanded further up to 128GB via microSD cards. Gionee M5 will feature an 8mp rear facing camera and a 5mp front snapper.
The most interesting feature of the handset is its battery. As per the listing, Gionee M5 will house two batteries of 3,000mAh each that aims to deliver up to four days of life. It will also be the first time a smartphone will sport dual-battery set-up with Android Lollipop on it. Prior to this, Innos D6000 smartphone held the title for packing dual battery, but the handset never crossed beyond Android KitKat OS.
Smartphone manufacturers have faced challenges in the past slimming down the handsets with massive batteries. To an extent, tech giants have managed to keep the handsets in best shapes possible. Gionee, which is known for its slim handsets, hasn't focused much on styling. The M5 is expected to measure 152x76x8.6mm and weigh 213g, a good chance that you will feel the weight of the handset in your pocket.
Gionee is expected to launch M5 in three colours: Black Gentleman, Noble White, and Gold Glory. There is no fixed release date for the new handset at the time, but Gionee is going to launch its rumoured Elife E8 at an event in Beijing on 10 June. We can only expect the M5 to arrive some time later.
