Gionee silently added a new member to its Pioneer smartphone series in India, the P5 mini, targeted towards low-budget shoppers. The handset is available for purchase on the company's official online store for Rs. 5,349 and comes in black, blue, red, yellow, gold and white colours.
The launch of the Pioneer P5 follows the Pioneer P5L's release in India on April 12, with a price tag of Rs. 8,499. The Pioneer P5 mini is a downgraded version of the P5L with specs that will justify its sub-Rs. 6,000 price tag.
Gionee Pioneer P5 mini sports a 4.5-inch WVGA IPS display with 480x854 pixels, a 5-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and a 2MP front-snapper. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6580M processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage with the option to expand up to 128GB using microSD card.
Gionee P5 mini houses a 1,850mAh battery, which the company claims delivers up to nine hours of talk time and 237 hours of standby on 3G networks. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Amigo 3.1 and comes with dual SIM card support.
The handset was first launched in Nigeria last month, and India is the second market for the phone. The product listing of the P5 mini says the handset features DTS sound technology for superior sound, both on stereo and headphones. It also has a unique Face Unlock feature to protect private data stored on the device.
Gionee's Pioneer P5L (2016) is also available online and packs more premium specs than the P5 mini. It features a 5-inch HD IPS display, an 8MP primary camera with LED flash, a 5MP front-snapper and a 2,300mAh battery. It is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 processor, 1GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. The handset supports 4G LTE and VoLTE, and has dual SIM slots.
