Gionee has finally launched the much-overdue Marathon M5 Plus in India, after it was originally launched in China in December 2015. The handset's arrival was first reported by a Mumbai-based retailer, Mahesh Telecom, on Wednesday before the company confirmed the news to Gadgets360.
Gionee Marathon M5 Plus, which is a part of the company's popular Marathon series, succeeds the Marathon M5 with notable upgrades. In terms of the battery, which the handset's biggest USP, the Marathon M5 Plus comes with better optimisation for longer battery life even with a comparatively lower capacity. The Marathon M5 was launched with a 6,020mAh battery when compared to Marathon M5 Plus' 5,020mAh unit.
Gionee Marathon M5 Plus also comes with improved battery life cycle, which the company claims to last up to 2 years as it retain 90 percent of the original capacity after 600 charging cycles. In addition, the handset comes with an alert system to notify users about apps that drain too much battery life. To top it all up, the Marathon M5 Plus supports fast charging technology to fully charge in less than two hours.
In terms of specifications, Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is a complete powerhouse. It is powered by a 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, 3GB RAM and offers 64GB internal storage with expandable option up to 128GB. The device runs Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Amigo 3.1 UI and supports 4G LTE, USB Type-C connectivity and dual SIM.
The full metal smartphone has a fingerprint scanner integrated within the physical home button of the device. It sports a 6-inch AMOLED Full HD display with 2.5D glass and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. With these specifications and price, the Marathon M5 Plus gives a tough competition to Oppo F1 Plus, which has identical features.
Gionee Marathon M5 Plus will be available in India for Rs. 26,999 and come in champagne gold and polar gold colours. It measures 8.4mm thick and weighs 211.5 grams.
