An eight-year-old boy was killed after an SUV rammed into him at a wedding ceremony in Nandgram, Ghaziabad on Wednesday night, November 28.
The driver of the Scorpio SUV was pulling road stunts as a part of the wedding reception when he lost control of the car and hit three people, including Vansh Kumar. Shamsuddin, the driver of the SUV and a resident of Old Seemapuri in Delhi, has now been arrested by the police and the SUV has been seized.
According to the boy's father Mohan Kumar, a wedding ceremony was taking place at nearby Ambedkar Bhawan. They were having dinner around 10.30 pm when loud music started playing outside and Vansh went out to see what was happening.
After a while when Vansh did not return, his father went to look for him and later came to know that his son along with two others were hit by an SUV and the driver had taken them to a hospital. The other two escaped with minor injuries.
"We then rushed to a nearby hospital where we were told that the boy was taken to another hospital in Kavi Nagar. There, my son was declared dead on arrival. He sustained severe injuries to the head and other parts of the body after he was hit by the SUV at a high speed," Kumar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
The driver was booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304a (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of IPC and was arrested later.
Vansh, who lived with his parents and siblings, was a second-grade student of Guru Nanak public school in Lohia Nagar. He died of head injuries on Thursday morning.
