German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in India on Sunday and was accorded a ceremonial welcome on Monday morning at the Rashtraparti Bhavan, where she was welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modi also extended a greeting to Angela Merkel on Twitter.
"Namaste Chancellor Merkel! Warm welcome to you & the delegation. I look forward to fruitful discussions & strengthening India-Germany ties," PM Modi tweeted.
The two leaders sat down for talks at the third Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC), where Merkel and Modi discussed issues ranging from investments to security.
"I place great value on Germany's assistance of over 1 billion Euros each for India's Green Energy Corridor and for solar projects," Modi said during a joint statement.
India and Germany signed as many as 18 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), based on cooperation in manufacturing, skill development, security and even promoting one another's languages among their respective people.
Modi and Merkel also discussed the reforms of the United Nations Security Council, taking forward their talks at the G-4 summit in New York two weeks ago.
The German Chancellor will visit Bengaluru on Tuesday along with Modi to attend a NASSCOM event, while she will be joined by President Pranab Mukherjee when she visits the Bosch centre in the city.
