Two men aboard a Piper PA-32 escaped uninjured after their small aircraft crashed into the roof a house on 15 December, being unable to reach Georgias airport runway.
The plane was flying from Jacksonville, Florida to South Carolina when it began experiencing mechanical problems during flight, airport officials said. The pilot was unable to reach the runway of the Malcolm McKinnon Airport and crash-landed on top of an elderly couples home in the nearby St Simons Island community.
Local residents say this type of crash-landing isnt uncommon in the area, where just last year a pilot was killed after crashing into a house not far from the recent accident. Authorities are conducting an investigation into what exactly brought the small plane down.
