Hollywood actor George Clooney was arrested at Sudan's embassy in Washington on Friday for protesting the increasing humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
Clooney, his father Nick and several other anti-Sudan activists were arrested for civil disobedience, as they protested in spite of police warnings. The Secret Service personnel handcuffed them and drove them away in a van.
"We need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the Sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. The second thing we are here to ask is for the government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them. That's all we ask," Reuters quoted the actor as saying just before the arrest.
The actor was released on bail along with other anti-Sudan activists.
Clooney had voiced his concern over Sudan forces' repeated attacks on the civilians at the Senate hearing this week. He said that about 250,000 people are facing severe food shortage as the forces prevented aid from reaching the affected region.
