General Motors (GM) India on Thursday brought Chevrolet's multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Enjoy to India with prices starting from ₹5.49 lakh.
The American car maker's latest offering is priced aggressively in the Indian market to take on one of Maruti Suzuki's best-selling models - Ertiga. Chevrolet Enjoy costs ₹40,000 to ₹70,000 lesser than Ertiga which is priced between ₹5.98 lakh and ₹ 8.7 lakh. Maruti sells around 5,000 to 6,000 Ertiga units a month in India.
"Enjoy is positioned in the fastestgrowing utility vehicle space. With its features and aggressive prices, we hope to get good response from the market. We are aiming to sell about 3,500 units per month of this vehicle," said P Balendran, vice president, GM India.
The vehicle was launched in the Indian market with two engine options - petrol and diesel. Under the hood, the petrol variant packs a 1.4-litre S-TEC II engine which produces 104PS of power and 131Nm of torque. It is priced between ₹5.49 lakh and ₹6.99 lakh. On the other hand, the diesel version houses a 1.3-litre diesel motor engine with 76 bhp of power and falls in the ₹6.69-₹7.99 lakh price range.
The car comes in the seven seater and the eight seater models. The seven seater model has captain seats in the first two rows, while the last row is a bench. The eight seater model has benches in the middle and last rows. GM is offering customers a three year/1 lakh kms warranty, whichever is earliest. With the launch of Enjoy, GM eyes a double digit market share in the MPV segment.
"The new car is in the MPV segment. We are confident of having a healthy double digit share in this segment," said Rajesh Singh, vice president (sales, service and marketing) of GM India.
