Vijay Devarakonda starrer Geetha Govindam has once again rocked the worldwide box office on Bakrid holiday, taking its global total collection beyond Rs 70 crore gross mark in eight days.
After taking the box office by storm over the weekend, Geetha Govindam witnessed around 50 percent drop in its collection on Monday as it was working day. The movie maintained steady numbers at the ticket counters on Tuesday and ended up collecting Rs 65 crore gross at the worldwide box office in seven days.
Wednesday was a holiday in India as it was the occasion of Bakrid. The Parasuram-directed romantic comedy film showed decent growth on this day with the movie witnessing 100 percent occupancy in many centres. The movie did fantastic business not just in the Telugu states, but also in other parts of the country.
As per early estimates, Geetha Govindam has collected approximately Rs 8.50 crore gross at the worldwide box office on Wednesday, taking its total collection to Rs 73.50 crore in eight days. With one day left to complete its first week, the Vijay Devarakonda and Rashmika Mandanna starrer is likely to surpass Rs 80 crore gross mark in the global market.
Geetha Govindam is a small budget movie that is made on a shoe-string budget of Rs 5 crore. The movie fetched Rs 15 crore to its producers from the sale of its worldwide theatrical rights. The film has earned over Rs 40 crore to its distributors in eight days. Besides recovering their investments, the movie has got them a profit share of Rs 25 crore. It has become one of the biggest blockbusters of 2018 at the box office.
However, Geetha Govindam will clash with Aatagallu, Anthaku Minchi, Neevevaro and Lakshmi in its second week. Though they are small budget movies with less hype, they are likely to reduce its screen count, forcing it out of a few theatres. It should be seen how the movie will fare at the box office in the coming week.
