Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir finally got the call to feature for Virat Kohli's team in the final Test match against New Zealand, which started on Saturday in Indore and the 34-year-old southpaw made sure that the occasion doesn't go wasted. He started off well in the match before getting out via LBW in the 20th over by Trent Boult.
Nevertheless, the start he made to his innings deserved all the plaudits. Gambhir, who made 29 runs off 53 balls, got off the mark with a boundary and then a flurry of fours and sixes followed -- something not very usual in Test cricket. The major highlight of his batting in the day was hitting two consecutive sixes off Kiwi pacer Matt Henry in the 4th over of the match.
The ball got a major bounce on both occasions by Henry, and Gambhir, who is playing for India in a Test match after two years, had no option but to make two play back-to-back pull shots to get the ball straight over the boundary.
Several fans wondered whether he was playing ODI or T20 cricket, and social media has been flooded with this question. BCCI President Anurag Thakur was also present at the Holkar Stadium in Indore to witness the match and even he, along with the fans, cheered and clapped every run Gambhir made in his innings.
Check out the video where he scores 12 runs in 2 deliveries by Matt Henry
