Game of Thrones is coming to an end and it's a heady swirl of all kinds of emotions for us fans. Excited that there is one whole season to go before the show concludes, but nervous about what it holds.
And adding fuel to the fire is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's (who plays Jamie Lannister) latest interview with The Wrap, where he hints at how Season 8 will play out. Totally pleased with the script, the actor went on to appreciate the writers. Having said that, Waldau said he found parts of it "shocking and surprising."
"And it wasn't, there were none of those horrible — you know shows where it's a murder mystery and at the very last minute you find out it doesn't make sense? But here all the pieces fit into this massive jigsaw puzzle," he further added.
Let's be honest, it's a good enough tease for spoiler-thirsty viewers, but how about we take a look at five craziest (but could be true) fan theories that have been floating the web for weeks now. Hopefully, that will get us through until the new season airs in 2019.
Jon Snow wins the game
This isn't new, really. We all know he is Aegon Targaryen, son of Rhaegar Targaryen, which means Jon has a birth right to the throne. Also, there's considerable chatter about how he's the Azor Ahai, the prince who was promised (because he was restored to life by Melisandre).
Jon & Dany together forever
All was wonderful until we were told how these two were related. Even though Jon and Dany are aunt and nephew, their relationship could work. You know, when Cersei and Jamie's could work, why not this one. Now that they are united and ready to work together to take down a common enemy, there's a chance they could rule together after all's done.
Daenerys – ruler of the throne
The show could end on a high and really attract some rave reviews if they went with the fan theory, in which Dany rules the kingdom because she was destined to. In a season 5 flashback, a young Cersei learns from a witch that there will be a more "beautiful, younger queen" ruling the roost.
Tyrion could trump Jon and Dany
Even though his last name is Lannister, fan theories suggest Tyrion is the illegitimate son of the Mad King (Aerys Targaryen). And if that turns out to be true, then he could have a claim at the throne as well through birthright. There are subtle proofs along the seasons that may help in identifying him as a Targaryen. For instance, when he encountered a dragon, he wasn't ripped to shreds and we all know how well the house of Targaryens knows its dragons.
Jon Kills Daenerys
Although unbelievable, this is a possibility. Reddit user Try_Another_No speculated that Dany might see a vision of her dying in the battle only to be united with his dead husband Khal Drogo and stillborn baby. Knowing the risks, she agrees to fight the fight and eventually dies. Also, if Jon is really Azor Ahai then there's a chance he would plunge his magical sword into his wife's (Dany) heart, killing her.
There are no ways to confirm these theories and we can only hope that things end up no-so-dark for power couple Jon-Dany.
